Sample Responses

Physical activity should be required in school.  Do you agree or disagree?

I agree that physical activity should be required in school for the following reasons.  First, physical activity gets the energy levels up in your body.  If you don’t have any energy, you won’t be able to learn because you’ll have a hard time focusing and being able to think critically.  Second, schools should look to develop all aspects of the human being, not just the mental ones.  Giving children the recommended 30 minutes a day really helps to keep them fit and it also creates a balance between the body and mind.  In summary, that’s why I believe physical activity should be required in school.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: We can learn a lot about a place from going to it and visiting its historical sites.

I emphatically agree that you can learn a lot by going to a place and visiting its historical sites for the following reasons.  First, it really helps you to recreate the past.  If I’m learning about a battle in the American Revolution, I could learn more if I go to the actual battle ground.  For example, I can see the dimensions of the war field or what the perimeter looked like.  Then I could understand why a general made a certain decision.  Another reason we can learn a lot about a place is because we can ask people around the area about it.  Usually locals have a good amount of information to share about historical sites because they have lived around them for a long time.  They might be able to give us useful information that you can’t find in a book.  In conclusion, those are two reasons why I think you can learn a lot about a historical site by going to visit it.

Your grandparents’ lives were a lot harder than yours.  Do you agree or disagree?  Give reasons to support your response.

I believe my grandparent’s lives were harder than mine for the following reasons.  First, my grandparents lived in a time of no technology.  So they didn’t have a cell phone, or computer, not even a car.  Imagine how much harder your life would be without those simple things?  Secondly, my grandparents lived through the depression, the worst economic era in the history of the country.  Many people had no money for food and shelter, and that period lasted for at least a decade.  While we are stuggling through a depression no, it doesn’t compare at all to the Great Depression of the 1920s.  In conclusion, that’s why my grandparents lives were harder than mine.
